Bondi, 154sqm
This project presented a unique opportunity to design two buildings on a compact terrace site. The result is a spacious and light-filled four-bedroom house with a separate self-contained studio at the rear.
A key aspect of the project was restoring and preserving the original features of the existing house. The previously enclosed front porch was carefully reinstated and French doors were added to open directly onto a newly landscaped garden.
Respecting the heritage character of the existing worker’s cottage, the two-storey addition is modest in scale, ensuring it remains fully concealed from the street view. The home reflects the owners’ active lifestyle and relaxed nature. It maximises natural light and ventilation and provides an outlook to greenery from every room.
The owners are both cycling enthusiasts, and they now have a house on a relatively small site that meets all their needs - an open-plan indoor/outdoor living space connected to their garden, separate office spaces and plenty of bike storage in the shed.
